Trey Gowdy Just Made A Startling Revelation About The Clintons On National TV [Video]

Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., offered praise for embattled former FBI Director James Comey Tuesday night and seconded the comment from Fox News host Martha McCallum that the Clintons’ “entanglements” with the Justice Department run deep.

As he discussed Comey’s July 2016 press conference in which he announced Hillary Clinton would not be charged for her use of a private email server while she was secretary of state, Gowdy said “history will be much kinder to Jim Comey in that July press conference than the Democrats were.”

“I think he had access to information that, because he is a stand-up guy, he is not going to disseminate classified information — though God knows everybody else is — even if it cast him in a negative light,” he said.

“I know what it was,” Gowdy said of Comey’s decision. “He made the only decision he could have made with respect to appropriating that decision away from the Department of Justice and making the decision himself.”

Comey said in testimony before Congress earlier this month that as the investigation of Clinton’s emails was nearing its close, he was worried about the integrity of the Justice Department.

“A number of things had gone on, some of which I can’t talk about yet, that made me worry that the department leadership could not credibly complete the investigation and declined prosecution without grievous damage to the American people’s confidence in the — in the justice system,” Comey said at the time.

“And then the capper was — and I’m not picking on the Attorney General Loretta Lynch, who I like very much — but her meeting with President Clinton on that airplane was the capper for me. And I then said, you know what, the department cannot by itself credibly end this,” he said.

Gowdy said it’s obvious Comey knew a lot more about what happened in that meeting.

“All your viewers see is this meeting on the tarmac,” Gowdy told McCallum Tuesday night. “Jim Comey had access to additional information that I am convinced left him with no other choice than to make a decision he made in July.”

“I think he had access to information that he wanted to safeguard the integrity of the investigation and the integrity of the process,” he added. “I probably ought to just leave it right there. I think he wanted the public to have confidence in the investigation and the outcome, even though I disagreed with the outcome, he wanted you to have confidence in the process.”

“Trust me when I tell you this, Martha — I know what it was and I have been a critic of James Comey in the past. But he made the only decision he could have made with respect to appropriating that decision away from the Department of Justice and making the decision himself,” Gowdy said.

McCallum offered her interpretation of Gowdy’s answer.

“I only take away from that that you are suggesting that there were more entanglements between the Clintons and perhaps the Justice Department than everyone understands,” McCallum said.

“You’re very perceptive,” Gowdy replied.

Gowdy also called for the FBI to share the alleged memo Comey wrote detailing what has been reported in the media as a conversation between Comey and President Donald Trump in which trump appeared to have asked Comey to go easy on former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

“If it was read to The New York Times, it would certainly help [if] the FBI would read it to members of Congress,” Gowdy said.

“I want to see the memo [and] I want to talk to Director Comey to determine how contemporaneous his recording of the conversation was,” Gowdy added. “What did Director Comey hear? How did he take it? That can only be done … that can only be done by looking at the memo and talking to Director Comey.”

He also said some perspective about the conversation is in order.

“I don’t think Director Comey reported President Obama the four different times he prejudged the outcome of an investigation,” Gowdy said. “Director Comey has not been afraid in the past to say no to presidents and attorney generals. I think if he felt like this was an effort to influence him, he knows exactly what to do.”
