Historically Black College Leader Compared Obama and Trump… Sorry, Barack

While former President Barack Obama talked a good game about helping the black community, in reality he accomplished very little, particularly in comparison to newly elected President Donald J. Trump.

“In the first four months of this presidency, the Trump administration has been far more responsive to our community than the past administration,” Johnny C. Taylor Jr., president of a nonprofit that supports and represents black students, explained to the Los Angeles Times in an interview.

“I, for one, judge people by what they do — not what they say,” he added, the implication being that Obama had been full of it.

Walter Kimbrough, president of Dillard University, seemingly concurred, saying, “For (President) Obama, people expected him to come in and fix everything, especially for black people … but he never campaigned strongly for HBCUs.”

Meanwhile, the reverse has occurred with Trump: Although the black community expected very little from him, many have wound up being pleasantly surprised.

“So people now want to see what’s going to happen because he’s coming in saying he’s going to be the president for HBCUs,” Kimbrough added. “It’s a very different perspective, but it’s still the first 150 days, so we’ll see what happens.”

In fact, Trump’s first action toward aiding the black community occurred as early as two months into his presidency, when he signed an executive order to provide $25 billion — more than six times as much offered by Obama — in funding for HBCUs, or historically black colleges and universities, according to Breitbart.

“With this executive order, we will make HBCUs a priority in the White House — an absolute priority,” Trump said in a statement at the time.

Tom Knighton of PJ Media noted the irony of all this, writing, “A Republican president, the party that allegedly hates minorities, is the one actually keeping his promises about expanding minority educational opportunities.”

It’s funny how that works, isn’t it? The fact is that talk is cheap — and so are Democrats, who love delivering lengthy, pretentious speeches chockablock with feel-good bromides, but who have repeatedly shown an appalling disinterest in actually getting anything done.

Trump is the opposite: He delivers short, pointed speeches in laymen’s terms, and subsequently accomplishes “big, beautiful” things without shamelessly patting himself on the back in the process.
