Melania Trump Calls for Peace Amidst Chaos in Charlottesville and Her Family Gets Blamed for the Violence
On Saturday, disagreement between attendees of the “Unite the Right” rally and counterprotesters in Charlottesville reached a boiling point.
Violence broke out in the streets and surrounding areas.
According to Charlottesville Police Chief Al Thomas, 35 people were treated for injuries. As the situation continued to escalate, Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe declared a state of emergency and called in the National Guard.
Tragedy struck when a driver intentionally plowed his vehicle into a crowd of counterprotesters, killing one and injuring several others.
But before it got to that level of insane, First Lady Melania Trump tweeted out a call for peace and unity:
Our country encourages freedom of speech, but let’s communicate w/o hate in our hearts. No good comes from violence. #Charlottesville

And the backlash flooded in:
Your husband fanned this flame. He continues to divide. You and your family share the responsibility for what is happening.

You misspelled “Donald & I condemn the racist views of the white-supremacy movement.”

How’s about a Tweet from your husband @realDonaldTrump? A little fire & fury in his Tweet denouncing this?

RIGHT! POTUS being silent on this is not a revelation. It’s his MO.

Start at home before you preach to us.

Where is the president’s response Melania. We are waiting. This is not to be tolerated. Racism. Antisematic. Anti black. We are condemning

Another commenter said, “As if you really care. Your husband started this mess and you didn’t speak up against him. What do you do as FLOTUS anyway?”
The first lady has yet to respond to the attacks on her family.
