Recent reports have exposed that the Russia dossier was funded by both the Clinton campaign as well as the Democratic National Committee. The dossier made serious accusations on Donald Trump and his involvement with Russia.
Trump then responded earlier this week, saying:
- “With this fake dossier, it was made up. And I understand they paid a tremendous amount of money. And Hillary Clinton always denied it, the Democrats always denied it.
- And now only because it’s going to come out in a court case, they said yes they did it, they admitted it. And they’re embarrassed by it. But I think it’s a disgrace. It’s just really a very sad commentary on politics in this country.”
Then on Friday, press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders held a press briefing and was asked several questions on the topic of Russia and the Clintons. But there was one moment that really stuck out.
CNN senior White House correspondent Jim Acosta asked:
- “I was wondering why did the president involve himself in the Uranium One investigation? Are you trying to gin up your own Russia investigation to rival the one up on Capitol Hill, and where is the president’s evidence of Hillary Clinton colluded with the Russians as he tweeted this morning?”
Then, Sanders responded:
- “The president has pushed for transparency, if that is what you are referring to when dealing with Congress. I know that’s probably something new for a president to actually push for transparency, and that’s what he’s done. That was the purpose of what he was trying to do in that process.”
Acosta tried to follow up but got totally shut down by Sanders.
