After Releasing the JFK Files, Trump Is Now Taking Aim at Someone Else’s Secret Files

On Thursday, the highly anticipated, classified files relating to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy were released by President Trump. Because of the threat of “potentially irreversible harm” to national security, 2,891 files were released, while the rest were placed on a six-month review. The release of these was highly anticipated because of all the conspiracy theories that have been floating around.

But now, Trump is taking aim at another set of classified documents, but this time they’re much more recent. Sources close to the president have stated that Trump wants to accelerate the release of the rest of the Clinton emails.

The Clinton emails were a huge topic during the 2016 presidential election as they were exposed by Wiki Leaks and played in Trump’s favor, since they exposed many negative things about the Clinton administration.

During a press briefing on Friday, Sarah Sanders stated that “the president has pushed for transparency“ and his wish to release the rest of the Clinton emails follows this same path for the administration. Sources told CNN that the goal in releasing them was ”transparency“ and that ”the law requires cooperation with Congress and the courts.”

CNN reports:

  • The sources also said Trump has expressed frustration with government agencies that have been slow in responding to requests for information that he believes should be public, especially given congressional and court-ordered requests for the information.
  • One source also said this effort is not about any individual or any particular item of evidence. However, both the lifting of the gag order and the effort on the emails involve one political figure who happens to be the President’s favorite target: Hillary Clinton.

The State Department is still holding 40,000 pages of records, most of which are emails, while 32,000 pages have already been released.
