UPDATE 3:21 p.m.: Reports now stating that 27 people have been killed and the suspect is dead after a brief chase from police.

A Texas church has come under attack.

Worshipers at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs were quietly praising God when an armed man stormed into the building and opened fire. Details are slim, but as of now, there’s over a dozen people who’ve been injured or killed.

The local sheriff stated there’s been “multiple casualties,” but failed to pinpoint exactly how many at this time.

Sheriff Joe Tackitt confirmed with the Wilson County News that there have been ‘multiple casualties and fatalities’.

KENS 5 has live coverage of the incident streaming from its Facebook page:

According to KSAT12, witnesses said a man walked into the church and opened fire.

  • A witness reported seeing a man walk into First Baptist Church and began shooting around 11:30 a.m.
  • Police said there are “multiple victims” at the church, but have not said how many.
  • The church is located in the 500 block of 4th Street in the small, south Texas town about 40 miles east of San Antonio.

Sadly, the latest update speculates that as many as 10 to 15 people have been murdered in the attack.

Others state that they heard the shooter reload “multiple times.”

According to some reports, a two-year-old child is also among the deceased.
