Barbara Bush is an American icon and she is not happy. She is protective of her family and their legacy and we do not blame her for doing so.
And we do not totally blame George Bush for some of the blunders that happened on his watch. The GOP spent like drunken sailors and started some serious misguided wars.
But that is what it looks like today. Right after the Arab Spring and before ISIS swept across the land he was hailed as being correct in taking down Sadaam as democracy did spread throughout the region.
Problem was the radicals rose to power. As it is with Obama – right now he looks like a weak and ineffectual leader who did more harm than good. But history may tell another take in 50 years.
But since right now we only have what we have to judge Bush’s presidency on, it is hard to argue with some of Steve Bannon’s points.
He made them last night in a speech before the California Republican Party as CNN reported.
“There has not been a more destructive presidency than George Bush’s,” Bannon said before ripping his “high falutin” speech the other day that was really a hit job on Trump.
“It was clear he didn’t understand anything he was talking about. He has no earthly idea of whether he’s coming or going,” hinting that Bush was given a Trump bashing script to read – “just like it was when he was President of the United States.”
That was a rough dig at Bush, because when he was President that he thought of as the smartest guy in the room. I think history will show him to be plenty smart, just misguided by establishment thinking.
Bannon went after Bush for ripping Trump’s America first policy saying,
“It’s not about your race, your color, your gender, your religion, your ethnicity, your sexual preference. It’s about one thing — are you a citizen of the United States of America? Because if you’re a citizen, there are certain responsibilities and obligations that come with that — but as a citizen also you should have preference for jobs and economic opportunities.”
Correct. And then he gave a two word parting shot that made Barbara Bush’s jaw hit the floor with an angry thud.
He summed her son’s speech ripping Trump with three simple words,
“He embarrassed himself.”
