Both Bush Presidents Just Revealed How They Voted in the 2016 Election

Only 45 people in the history of the United States know firsthand what it is like to be president, and two of them happen to be in the same family. In an upcoming book by historian Mark Updegrove, titled “The Last Republicans,” former Presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush offered their thoughts on the current White House occupant.

CNN reported that in May 2016, Bush Sr. admitted to Updegrove that he didn’t really know Donald Trump but claimed he didn’t like him and referred to Trump as a “blowhard.”

The younger Bush added that “this guy doesn’t know what it means to be president.”

Since the campaign began, the message of unity and how to heal the division has been a major topic, and according to the Bush family, in order to do that, “humility” is required, which they alluded to Trump not having.

Before Election Day, the 43rd president reportedly told Updegrove that the question the country faced was “to what extent should we be insisting upon integrity and solid character.”

When November 8 rolled around, according to CNN, neither one of the former presidents voted for Trump. George W. Bush didn’t vote for anyone for president, and Bush Sr. said he voted for Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton.

The title of the book reportedly references the belief among the Bush family that the country may have seen the last Republican president, as it has been known for years, when the younger Bush left the White House.

“If they were interested in continuing decades of costly mistakes, another establishment politician more concerned with putting politics over people would have won,” Press Secretary Sarah Sanders told Reuters in a statement.
